Date:

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) reached an agreement with the association that represents Hollywood studios on Sunday night (24). This could be the first step towards ending the category strike that began in May.

In an email to union members, the WGA said “the agreement is exceptional.” “With significant gains and protections for screenwriters across all sectors of our membership,” the note states.

Now, the agreement needs to be voted on and approved by the union’s more than 11,000 members. In the email, shared by Hollywood screenwriters and directors, the note states that the studios accepted all points of the negotiation.

Furthermore, the message also thanks the Actors Union (SAG), which struck in July in support of the writers’ strike. Thus, SAG congratulated the agreement, but noted that it remains on strike until negotiations with Hollywood are guaranteed.

“While we look forward to conferring on the WGA and AMPTP’s tentative agreement, we remain committed to fulfilling the necessary terms for our members,” the SAG wrote in a statement.
