In a statement posted on the organization’s website, he said: “After several days of reflection, learning, and dialogues with survivors, team members, and leaders at Thorn, I have concluded that the responsible action is to resign as board chair, effective immediately. No, I can allow my error in judgment to divert attention from our efforts and the care of the children we serve.” The actor and his current wife, actress Mila Kunis, came under fire for writing letters in support of Danny Masterson, describing him as a “dedicated and loyal husband,” an “excellent role model” and an “exceptional big brother.” Masterson was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually assaulting two women between 2001 and 2003.

Criticism came from public figures such as actresses Kathy Griffin and Christina Ricci, who emphasized the importance of supporting victims of sexual assault rather than individuals convicted of these crimes. The couple released a video apologizing after the backlash.

The letter was a strategy by Masterson’s defense to reinforce his integrity and seek a reduction in his sentence. Several actors also participated in this action. Ashton, Mila and Danny are long-time friends and worked together on the series “That 70’s Show” from 1998 to 2006.
