The live-action film “The Little Mermaid” has had 16 million views in its first week, since it debuted on streaming Disney+ on September 6.

In this way, its debut became the most watched on the platform since the sequel to “Abracadabra”, which entered the catalog on September 30, 2022.

Furthermore, according to a statement from the streaming press office, the launch of the live-action on Disney+ boosted the platform’s catalog.

This is because the premiere of the film led to an increase in public engagement with animations available on the streaming service in which the mermaid Ariel appears.

The live-action remake of the musical animation is, so far, among the ten highest grossing films of 2023, with global revenue of US$570 million.

The film stars Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Daveed Diggs and Awkwafina. Produced by director Ron Marshall (“Mary Poppins Returns”) and screenwriter Jane Goldman (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”). Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda were responsible for the soundtrack.
