In a video posted on X Saturday night, Adele started by saying that “I’ll remember that character for the rest of my life,” recalling Perry’s character, Chandler Bing, in the TV series Friends. She also talked about his struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. “He was so open with his struggles with addiction and sobriety. Which I think is incredibly, incredibly brave”.

She praised Perry for bringing “so much joy” to her life, despite only knowing him from his time on the screen. “And yeah, I just wanna say how much I love what he did for all of us. Especially what he did for me. One of the best comedic characters of all time. And hopefully, now, he can rest in peace”. She also dedicated her song “When We Were Young” to Matthew.

Another artist who paid tribute to the late actor was Charlie Puth, during his concert in Melbourne, Australia. In a video posted on TikTok, Puth had the crowd singing the “Friends” theme-song, as he played the piano, transitioning to a snippet of his “See You Again” song.

Matthew Perry died at the age of 54 at his home in Los Angeles, due to an apparent drowning. The details of the cause of death are still unknown, but TMZ reported on Saturday that foul play is not suspected. The official cause of death has not yet been released.
