The rapper released a statement to explain the decision that he and Jeannie made to end their marriage. “The decision to end this chapter in my life was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart. Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart.”

Jeezy also talked about their daughter Monaco, welcomed in January 2022. “Our beautiful daughter is the best gift from our relationship and I am committed to assuring she feels the love and stability she deserves”. He concluded the statement asking for respect to their privacy. “During this period, I kindly request that you respect our family’s privacy as we focus on healing”.

The rapper filed for divorce on September 14, in Atlanta, Georgia. According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, the filing says that he and Jeannie are “currently living in a bona fide state of separation” and that their marriage is “irretrievably broken” with “no hope for reconciliation”. He also wants to share joint legal custody of their daughter.

The former couple started dating in 2018, and tied the knot in March 2021. Jeannie Mai has also broken her silence on the divorce, as last week she posted a photo on Instagram of handwriting in a notebook, which reads “Sometimes you need to take a break and disconnect, to heal”.
