Nicholas Hoult will play the villain Lex Luthor in the DCU. The actor was cast to play the megalomaniac billionaire in Superman: Legacy, James Gunn’s film that will kick off the new shared universe.

With this, the actor from Mad Max: Fury Road and X-Men: First Class inherits the role of Luthor from names like Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, Michael Rosenbaum and Jesse Eisenberg, who was the DCEU version in Batman vs. Superman and Justice League.

In addition, the film also found two more cast members. Skyler Gisondo (Licorice Pizza) has been cast as Jimmy Olsen; Portuguese model Sara Sampaio will play Eve Teschmacher.

The information was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.

The trio joins a team that has been growing. The film already features David Corenswet (Pearl), who will play Superman; Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), who will play Lois Lane; María Gabriela de Faría (Isa TKM), as the villainous Engineer; and Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as the Shapeshifter.

According to director and screenwriter James Gunn, Superman: Legacy will show the Man of Steel at the beginning of his heroic career, trying to establish himself in a world that already has superheroes.

Scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, Superman: Legacy is the first film in the new DCU.
