In an interview with The New Yorker magazine, the director dismissed the complaints of historian Dan Snow, who criticized the film’s trailer on his TikTok profile.

Thus, according to Snow’s vision, the filmmaker did not film Napoleon’s historic Battle of the Pyramids in a location with real pyramids, while the version of Marie Antoinette played by Catherine Walker did not have the short hair worn by the queen consort at the time. of his execution – and not even Napoleon was present at the scene, as shown in the trailer.

Asked about the historian’s comments, Scott was clear: “Get a Life”.

Therefore, in a recent interview with Empire, Joaquin Phoenix had already pointed out that Scott’s priority was never the historical difference to certain events in Napoleon’s life. 

According to the actor, “If you want to really understand Napoleon, you should probably study and read it on your own. Because if you watch this movie, it’s that experience told through Ridley’s eyes.”

Directed by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Gladiator), the film also has a script by David Scarpa (All the Money in the World).

With Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby in the cast. “Napoleon” explores the emperor’s life and trajectory, including his rise to power and his troubled relationship with Empress Joséphine.

The film hits theaters on November 24th.
