Currently on Apple TV+’s Slow Horses, the actor was candid when confessing that his career was saved by the two franchises.

At 42 years old, I woke up divorced, with custody of my children”, he explained. “It was difficult because there was a change in the industry, and many productions started to be filmed in Hungary, Budapest, Prague, Australia, all these places. So I turned down a lot of jobs.”

“Thank God for Harry Potter,” he continued. “Both Batman and Harry Potter saved me, because I could work a little for a lot of money and be at home with my children.”

With that, the actor recalled that, for The Dark Knight (2005), he was constantly on planes. The film was shot in London, and he lived with his children in Los Angeles.

“I’d go home for three days, come back for two [of filming]. I’d go home for a week, come back for a day. If not, my kids would be raised by a nanny.”

It’s worth remembering that Oldman played Jim Gordon in the Dark Knight trilogy written by Christopher Nolan. In Harry Potter, he played Sirius Black, the protagonist’s godfather.
