Shakira has said that she put her career on hold for many years because of ex-husband Gerard Piqué.

In an interview with the Sunday Times published on Saturday (16), Shakira said: “For a long time I put my career on hold to be next to Gerard, so he could play football. There was a lot of sacrifice for love”.

The former couple first met in 2010, on the set of the music video for Shakira’s song “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa”). They welcomed their first child, 11-year-old Milan, in 2013, and then 9-year-old Sasha in 2015.
The family used to live in Barcelona, Spain, where Piqué played for the city’s soccer team. Shakira occasionally coached on the show “The Voice” in the USA and released the album “El Dorado” in 2017, but focused mainly on raising her children.
In June 2022, the two announced their separation in a joint statement. It was later reported that Shakira had discovered Piqué’s alleged infidelity with his current girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti.
