Last night at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown Los Angeles the ’30th Annual Imagen Awards’ celebrated Latinos in the industry and they had a little fun with a Donald Trump pinata!
JETSS was in attendance as the biggest names in Latin Hollywood film & TV were honored. This year the show was produced by Emmy winner producer/director Kenny Ortega and Douglas Velasco. The Imagen’s were founded in 1985 at the suggestion of legendary TV producer Norman Lear to bridge the gap between the Latino community and entertainment. The Foundation is headed by Helen Hernandez.
America Ferrera opened the show with an emotional speech, however she refused to say the name “Donald Trump” and asked that it be edited from the script. At the end of the evening a large pinata of Trump was brought on stage and smashed to pieces by comedienne host Aida Rodriguez followed by dancing on the debris.
Some of the winners were ‘Jane the Virgin’ stars Gina Rodriguez, Andrea Navedo and Ivonne Coll; super talented Carlos Pratts for Best Supporting Actor (and Best Feature) in the Disney film ‘McFarland, USA’ and Best Actress went to Zoe Saldana for ‘Book of Life’. Also in attendance were Paula Abdul, Edward James Olmos, Esai Morales, ‘Devious Maids’ stunning Roselyn Sanchez, ‘Modern Family’ Rico Rodriquez, ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Mark Ballas and a special ‘Imagen Legacy Award’ went to Rita Moreno.
