The news of the unthinkable attacks in Paris that left close to 130 people dead did not break until Stephen Colbert was half-way through the taping of ‘The Late Show.’

According to the audience members who on Twitter said Colbert broke the news of the attacks to his stunned audience when the show went to a commercial break. He then closed the show with a heartfelt sign off, almost in tears saying…“Folks, we end tonight’s show with a heavy heart because we taped all of tonight’s show, and then we found out about the horrific attacks in Paris today…I know not much is known right now. We do know there have been many deaths and the crisis is still ongoing.”

Continuing, “President Hollande declared a state of emergency and President Obama has promised that the United States will do whatever it takes to bring those terrorists to justice. We add our thoughts and prayers to everyone in Paris.”

“And now, we’ll see you on Monday.” Colbert then took a deep breath and a pause, which appeared he was holding back tears and then said. “Goodnight.”
