Barbara Walters has named Caitlyn Jenner the most fascinating person of 2015 in her annual television special.

During the 90-minute 10 Most Fascinating People of 2015 special, Walters started off with a semi-sneering damnation comparing Bruce Jenner’s athletic achievements with Caitlyn’s apparent fussing over appearance, but then qualified it spectacularly.

The 86-year-old TV icon praised Caitlyn, 66, for the manner in which her very public gender transformation made the public ask valuable questions regarding gender, Daily Mail reports. “Famous and familiar, she raised awareness and acceptance of transgendered people,” Walters said.

“She became a champion for people who had long been pushed to the margin of society.” Also on the list were UFC juggernaut Ronda Rousey, actors Tracy Morgan and Bradley Cooper, politicians Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, comedian Amy Schumer, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, fashion designer Donna Karan and Misty Copeland, the first African-American female principal dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre.
