Jennifer Lawrence feels that she has herself to blame for her part in perpetuating the gender pay gap that exists in Hollywood.

The star of the Hunger Games film series admits that she feels “awkward” negotiating for higher pay and blames herself for pay inequality at the top of the entertainment industry.

In a television interview with Charlie Rose of CBS News, Lawrence said: “I feel awkward negotiating, I feel uncomfortable asking for more money, I don’t want to seem like a brat.” The 25-year-old was the highest-grossing female heroine of 2015, but feels the blame for it not reflecting on her payslip lies only with her. “There was no one to blame but myself for the gender pay gap,” she said.

After the notorious Sony hack of 2014, in which some of the entertainment giant’s sensitive corporate data was leaked, it was made public that Lawrence earned significantly less than her male colleagues.
