When you imagine most celebrities’ dream Christmas presents, you think of gold-plated cars or another storey on top of the mansion, but not for Tom Hanks.
The Saving Mr. Banks star loves typewriters and would love to add another one to his collection of over 50 machines from the 1940s. When the New York Post recently asked what he wanted from under the tree this festive season, he said: “Antique WWII typewriters. I own over 50.”
The actor’s love for ancient technology doesn’t come without a fight to preserve the art, though. “Takes a repair guy a month to get them working,” Hanks said. “I write my letters on them.”
The actor also has a taste for modern communication and regularly and innovatively uses social media in addition to his old-fashioned correspondence. He recently used Twitter to reunite a Fordam University student with her student card after he stumbled on it in a New York City park.
