For about two minutes on Sunday, Colombia had a second consecutive Miss Universe winner, but then one of the most humiliating TV moments in history took place.

With the crown barely settling on her hair, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo of Colombia watched on in horror as host Steve Harvey returned to the microphone.

“There’s…I have to apologise,” the experienced TV host and comedian said stuttering. “The first runner-up is Colombia. Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines!”

New Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach appeared stunned as she stepped forward to claim her crown, but the Colombian contestant stood frozen with a fixated smile and the crown firmly staying on her head.

“This is exactly what’s on the card,” Harvey said trying to calm the rowdy crowd. “I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake.”

Sunday night’s 64th annual Miss Universe pageant was the first to be judged by a television audience along with four celebrity judges. It was also without a doubt the most embarrassing blunder in the pageant’s history.

“Please don’t hold it against the ladies,” Harvey pleaded, but no one is really blaming the ladies anyway.
