Lena Dunham hospitalized for emergency surgery

Lena Dunham has been rushed to hospital to undergo emergency surgery after suffering from an ovarian cyst rupture.

The 29-year-old Girls star’s representative said “Lena will be undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital. We thank you for your understanding and hope that Lena’s privacy will be respected.”

Dunham recently told fans that she suffers from endometriosis, a condition which causes tissue to grow outside the uterus, and doctors have instructed her to rest.

She offered the explanation after she cancelled appearances promoting the latest season of HBO’s Girls.

“I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it’s time to rest,” she said then.

“Lena Dunham has been very public with her personal bouts with endometriosis,” the star’s representative told PEOPLE on Saturday. “This morning, she suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture and has been taken to the hospital.”

Shortly before suffering the rupture on Saturday, Dunham posted about natural products for women suffering from endometriosis on Instagram.
