Much like their drivers, we now have two Uber-themed movies on our doorstep when we really only need one.
This after Universal and Fox both bought Uber-themed projects within a 24-hour span in mid-April, Hollywood Reporter found out.
Universal forked out seven figures for the project that has Will Ferrell attached to produce and play the lead.
Brendan O’Brien will have to hurry on the script, though, as Fox wrote a big six-figure check to buy Tripper Clancy’s spec script Stuber – the story of an Uber driver who picks up a cop working on the most dangerous case of his career.
No talent has been attached to Fox’s project, but Universal and Ferrell will need to put their pedals to the floor if they want to be the first to be in theaters.
Hollywood Reporter has also learned that neither studio had prior knowledge of the other project, but that both projects were sold by United Talent Agency.
