An indie pop musician is suing Justin Bieber for allegedly stealing a vocal riff for his hit song “Sorry.”
Casey Dienel, aka White Hinterland, claims the “unique characteristics of the female vocal riff” from her song “Ring the Bell” forms a vital hook in Bieber’s hit, TMZ reports.
One listen confirms the lift and the 8-second riff is repeated in Bieber’s song six times, really hammering the hook into the unconscious.
Dienel is now looking to drag Bieber, his songwriting team and producer Skrillex to court in search of some financial payback.
The original track was an indie hit in its own right and was streamed 800 000 times while getting a nod as favorite from Rolling Stone.
