Actor Anton Yelchin was killed when his own car started rolling down his driveway on Sunday.
The rising star, best known for playing Chekov in the new Star Trek films, was pinned against a brick mailbox pillar and a security fence at his home in Los Angeles, BBC reports.
Police could not say why Yelchin had been behind the car when it started rolling down the driveway.
He was reportedly on his way to a rehearsal with friends, but when he did not pitch up, the group went to his home only to find him dead.
“What a rare and beautiful soul with his unstoppable passion for life,” actress and The Beaver co-star Jodie Foster said of Yelchin. “He was equal parts serious thinker and the most fun little brother you could ever dream of.”
J.J. Abrams, who cast the 27-year-old in the Star Trek franchise, said Yelchin was “brilliant … kind … funny as hell, and supremely talented.”
