Ed Sheeran has landed himself in some legal trouble after hit songwriters accused him of stealing his hit “Photograph” from them.
Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard is seeking $20 million from the singer who they claim reproduced their 2009 single “Amazing” note-for-note, TIME reports.
“The similarity of words, vocal style, vocal melody, melody, and rhythm are clear indicators, among other things, that ‘Photograph’ copies ‘Amazing’,” their lawsuit states.
“Amazing” became a hit in its own right when X Factor winner Matt Cardle recorded and released it as a single in 2009.
Go listen to the song and decide for yourself if Sheeran did a Xerox for his “Photograph.”
Sheeran is not the only one who has allegedly been mining other people’s music recently. Justin Bieber and Kanye West have also been caught lifting material.
