Twitter has responded to Justin Timberlake with fire after he responded to actor-activist Jesse Williams’ moving speech at the BET Awards.
“@iJesseWilliams tho…#Inspired #BET2016 (sic),” Timberlake first tweeted after Williams’ passionate speech about racism and social injustice at the ceremony on Sunday.
One Twitter user quickly fired the internet shots at Justin, tweeting: “Does this mean you’re going to stop appropriating our music and culture? (sic)”
“The more you realize that we are the same, the more we can have a conversation,” Timberlake tweeted in a response that sent the internet into meltdown once again.
“Y’all invited Justin Timberlake to the cookout and hit him over the head with a liquor bottle when he was fixing a to-go plate (sic),” Twitter user @Mr_H_Williams wrote.
“we have literally turned jesse’s moment into justin timberlake’s moment and that’s the biggest problem (sic),” @thatgirlsalina tweeted.
Some, however, jumped to JT’s defence as the singer claimed he “felt misunderstood.”
Twitter user @thatguydream wrote: “y’all was just inviting Justin Timberlake to the cookout, now he’s appropriating the culture? (sic)”
“I feel misunderstood,” JT tweeted. “I responded to a specific tweet that wasn’t meant to be a general response. I shouldn’t have responded anyway…”
“I apologize to anyone that felt I was out of turn. I have nothing but LOVE FOR YOU AND ALL OF US. (sic)”
