Singer Christina Grimmie, a contestant on NBC’s The Voice, was shot and killed after a performance in Orlando, Florida.
A man armed with two guns walked up to the singer and opened fire as she was signing autographs early on Saturday, CNN reports.
The man then shot and killed himself after Grimmie’s brother tackled him, preventing him from causing further injury.
“Her brother is a hero for saving and stopping him from not hurting anyone else,” police spokesperson Wanda Ford said.
The singer had just wrapped up a performance at The Plaza Live theater Friday night when the incident occurred.
Her publicist confirmed the singer’s death hours after she was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord,” a statement read.
Grimmie finished third on Season 6 of the popular TV singing competition.
