Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney have called off their engagement about a year after it seemed the pop star finally found her life partner.
Early on Wednesday, Gaga took to Instagram to comment on the news herself.
“Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break,” she captioned a picture.
“We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We’re just like everybody else and we really love each other.”
The 30-year-old was recently photographed without her ring as she volunteered at a children’s charity in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
“She was really crushed,” an insider told Us Weekly, adding that the trip to Mexico was “a girls trip to get away and get over it.”
Gaga and the Chicago Fire actor, 35, met on set of her “Yoü and I” music video in 2011 and they were together for five years.
On Valentine’s Day last year, Gaga shared a picture of a stunning heart-shaped engagement ring on Instagram.
At the time, she captioned the picture: “He gave me his heart on Valentine’s Day, and I said YES!”
Now, 17 months later, the internet will be thinking of various “bad romance” jokes to rub salt in the star’s wounds.
