Idris Elba shortlisted for James Bond

Idris Elba has made it to the shortlist of candidates to take over the role of James Bond from Daniel Craig.

The 43-year-old star made it to the official list of replacements MGM bosses are keeping on standby if Craig follows through with his plans to quit the franchise.

“To get anyone to take over from Daniel will be a tough job,” a source told British newspaper The Sun. “There will be a lot of trepidation about a new Bond, but Idris’ talent and proven appeal gives executives a lot of heart.”

The source did, however, raise a potential drawback to Elba’s candidacy to play the suave spy, saying “Idris may be a little older than the other candidates but he looks like he is still in his 30s.”

“MGM are confident that they are in a pretty strong place with a raft of talent available,” they added.

Other favorites for the role include include Poldark star Aidan Turner, Fast and Furious actor Luke Evans and Thor star (and Taylor Swift sidekick) Tom Hiddleston.

Rounding out MGM’s list are Michael Fassbender and Charlie Hunnam.

EON Productions boss Barbara Broccoli will reportedly have the final say on who will get the role and she is holding out on making the decision until the director has been announced.
