Ryan Lochte sponsors dump lying swimmer

Four sponsors including Speedo and Ralph Lauren have dumped disgraced US Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte.

Their announcements were followed by more from Syneron-Candela and Japanese mattress maker Airweave, BBC reports

This after Lochte admitted he lied when he told Brazilian police he had been robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro, the host city of the 2016 Olympic Games.

The 32-year-old swimmer previously earned millions of dollars through his endorsement deals.

“We cannot condone behaviour that is counter to the values this brand has long stood for,” swimwear brand Speedo said of the 12-time Olympic medallist.

“I am grateful for the opportunities that our partnership has afforded me over the years,” the swimmer responded.

His 10-year deal with the company was set to come to an end this year anyway.

“I made a mistake and I definitely learned from this. They put on a great Games… and my immature, intoxicated behaviour tarnished that a little,” Lochte told US talk show Today.
