Amy Schumer has revealed that she was told to lose weight before starring in Trainwreck and she was totally not cool with it.
The 35-year-old actress and comedienne said she was told to shed the weight to avoid “hurting people’s eyes,” but she realized it was wrong after initially caving in to the instructions.
“The only change was that it was explained to me before I did that movie that if you weigh over 140 pounds as a woman in Hollywood, if you’re on the screen it will hurt people’s eyes,” she said on The Jonathan Ross Show.
“I didn’t know that so I lost some weight to do that but never again.”
The funny star also revealed that she was once given the choice of losing weight to star in leads or to pack on more pounds so she could be cast as the “fat friend!”
“At my first audition when I was 21, they were like, ‘You should either lose weight or gain a bunch of weight, like be the fat friend or the romantic lead.’ Can you believe they said this?”
The actress, did, however reveal how she deals with the criticism of her body.
“I want to throw my hands in the air after reading a mean Twitter comment and say, ‘Alright! You got it. You figured me out. I’m not pretty. I’m not thin. I do not deserve to use my voice … All my self-worth is based on what you can see. But then I think f*** that.”
