Calvin Harris has slammed the rumors that his track “My Way” is about his very public breakup from Taylor Swift.
The 32-year-old DJ said he was actually working on the tracks for years, long before his relationship with the pop star even started.
“The song’s kind of about breaking out of a situation that you thought was a good thing. Then, you’re way more comfortable out of it,” he told iHeartRadio. “And it could be anything. It could be a job, or it could be a relationship.”
“I had kind of the idea for the concept for a few years, but I didn’t know how to work out how it sounded.”
Shortly after the track’s release, fans were dissecting the lyrics and many were certain it was about Taylor.
Lyrics like these certainly did not extinguish those flames: “I made my move and it was all about you. I feel so far removed. You are the one thing in my way.”
You will remember that Calvin and Taylor were involved in an epic social media feud following their breakup and Calvin said it was difficult dealing with it so publicly.
“It’s very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly. The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicised than the relationship itself,” he said. “But when it ended, all hell broke loose.”
It certainly did, but surely that song does reference T-Swift?
