Last week we celebrated 48 years of that historic “giant leap for mankind”. On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 landed on the moon, and six hours later, mission commander Neil Armstrong first stepped onto the lunar surface, with Buzz Aldrin joining him 20 minutes later. That day, the two American astronauts became the first humans to walk on the Moon.
“One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”
Since then, humans have fantasized about outer space and all the mysteries it hides. And while NASA continues to unveil one by one all the secrets of the vest universe we live in, here on Earth all we can do is wonder about all things that remain to be discovered.
The following movies have ventured to project out wildest dreams—and nightmares— about outer space. Celebrating almost five decades since man landed on the moon, take a look at our photo gallery above to see the 23 greatest movies that are, literally, out of this world!
