Congratulations to Mr. Carter for another well-deserved award!
While the list of nominees for the 2018 Grammy Awards has not been announced yet, on Tuesday it was revealed that Jay-Z will be honored with a special award from the hands of Clive David and the Recording Academy at the annual gala previous to the big ceremony.
The 21-time Grammy winner and entrepreneur will receive this year’s Grammy Salute to Industry Icons Awards for his great contribution to the music industry, as well as for his tireless philantrhpic work.
“We are absolutely thrilled and delighted to honor JAY-Z with this year’s GRAMMY Salute to Industry Icons Award. His contributions as an industry trailblazer and music visionary only begin to touch on the tremendous impact he’s made both in entertainment and beyond,” Neil Portnow, president/CEO of the RA said. “JAY-Z also embodies the vibrant spirit of New York City and we couldn’t imagine a more fitting honoree as we return to Manhattan for this year’s GRAMMY Awards.”
The news of this special homage comes shortly after the Brooklyn native became the first rapper to enter the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June. His most recent production, 4:44, was released by the end of that same month and peaked at No. 1 on the albums chart in July.
Shawn Carter, Jay-Z’s real name, is currently on tour promoting his thirteenth studio album—the rapper’s most deep and personal production so far. And given 4:44’s critical acclaim from both experts and fans, the Industry icons 2018 award probably won’t be the only Grammy Jay-Z takes home!
