Jennifer Hudson Receives Protective Order Against Ex Fiancé After Split

After a decade of being engaged, Jennifer Hudson and her former fiancé David Otunga have decided to call it quits.

Hudson’s rep confirmed the news in a statement to People magazine, saying: “They have been in the process of ending their relationship for a number of months.”

The singer also “requested and received a protective order against her ex-fiancé.” Hudson, 36, and Otunga, 37, are parents to son David Daniel Otunga Jr., 8, and according to the rep, The Voice coach’s actions “are solely taken in the best interest of their son.”

Tracy Rizzo, Otunga’s attorney, told TMZ that the lawyer-turned-wrestler has “never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son” and that Hudson’s move was solely to win unfair favor in the custody battle.

Close sources to the couple say that Hudson is afraid of losing total custody of her son given that, because of Hudson’s career, she constantly travels all around the world and wouldn’t be the obvious choice if the case ever goes to court.

Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga became engaged in 2008 after less than a year of dating. They welcomed their son soon after that in 2009. Six years into their engagement, the couple were allegedly already leaving separate lives, and a source close to them even sait it was unlikely that the wedding would ever happen.

Jennifer Hudson herself said in an interview: “My thing is once I get married, I don’t believe in divorce, so when I get married, it’s for good. We want to be completely sure we are together, we’re happy.”
