It’s been a long time since Miley Cyrus twerked away her Disney girl image with her provocative dance moves and revealing outfits. But the former star of Hannah Montana still reflects on her time in the show that catapulted her career.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Miley talked about the effects, bad and good, that reaching international fame at such an early age had in her life.
“I liked being in the Disney universe because I didn’t know anything else. I knew I was getting to live what I wanted to do,” the singer confessed. “I think now that I’m older now, I realize that’s a lot to put on a kid.”
Reflecting back on her lifestyle as a teenage sensation, Miley said: “I think it got harder when I started touring as both — I toured as Hannah Montana and as myself,” she said. “I think that is probably what’s a little bit wrong with me now. I mark that up to doing some extreme damage in my psyche as an adult person.”
However, her days as a Disney girl were not entirely bad.
Her role as Hannah Montana, on top of her undeniable talent in music and acting, allowed Miley to embark on projects that—despite the bumpy journey—have led her to this stage, which she describes as one of the healthiest and most stable of her life, next to her fiancé Liam Hemsworth and having released her sixth solo album, “Younger Now.”
“I definitely look back on it as a good time,” Cyrus said of the time when she literally had “the best of both worlds.”
