The proud father of three, James Corden, came back to The Late Late Show on Thursday night, after welcoming his third child, a baby girl, with his wife July Carey.
And while its been some days since his daughter’s sudden arrival, the host admitted they still hadn’t chosen a name for their little one. Although he did have a witty suggestion while they were still in the hospital.
“I looked at the doctor and I said, ‘We’re going to call her Beyoncé’… My wife did not think that was funny,” Corden told the audience.
Apparently, not even the nurse got it was a silly joke, as she immediately started filling out the necessary paperwork to name Corden’s daughter after Queen B.
“I had to go over to her and go ‘Excuse me, there’s only Beyoncé,’” he said.
The host also went on to explain that the arrival of the baby girl took them by surprise. He and his wife had only gone in for a routine checkup on Tuesday, when doctors informed them the child would be born in the next few hours.
“”We were unprepared. And it’s a really terrible thing if you’re in a room and your wife is eight-and-a-half months pregnant and the doctor is talking to her about very serious things about giving birth and there’s really no easy way to bring up the fact that you have to tape a show that day,” he said. “Take my word for it: You can’t say it without sounding like a d—.”
Fortunately, Corden did what he “always” does “in a time of crisis”: he called his pal Harry Styles. The former One Directioner took his place on The Late Late Show on the day of his daughter’s birth, with Bryan Cranston filling in for him as guest host the following night.
“I said [to Harry Styles], ‘You know, look, this works both ways man. If you ever need me, I can fill in for you at one of your concerts. You just say the word,'” the host said. “He said, ‘James that won’t be necessary.'”
