Maghan Markle out… Katherine Heigle in? It seems like Pearson Spencter Litt is getting a new partner.
The show must go on! And although loyal fans of Suits continue to mourn the imminent departure of Mike and Rachel from the show, actress Katherine Heigl is ready to shake things up in the beloved law firm.
Heigl will join the regular cast of Suits. In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, the Grey’s Anatomy alum expressed how lucky she feels to be a part of a series she has watched and enjoyed since the very beginning.
“Joining Suits was the perfect organic way to not only collaborate with [creator Aaron Korsh, who] I admire deeply, but to also become part of a show and cast that I am an immense fan of.”
Suits executive producer Aaron Korsh also said he is happy to welcome the actress in the ranks of the series, although he noted that the Pearson Specter Litt family might not feel the same. Heigl’s character, Samantha Wheeler, will “either become the firm’s greatest ally or most powerful enemy,” she said.
After her devastating departure from the Shonda Rhime’s hit show, Heigel has starred in two series—Doubt and State of Affairs, both legal dramas, although none of which was renewed for a second season.
Just a few days ago, Patrick J. Adams finally confirmed his exit from Suits, after seven seasons of starring in the show as Mike Ross, the lead character. Adam’s departures followed that of his co-star and TV girlfriend Meghan Markle, who left the series shortly after announcing her engagement to Prince Harry.
Suits Season 7 finale, which will also be Markle and Adam’s farewell from the series, will be a two-hour special set to air on April 25.
Katherine Heigl will join regular cast members Harvey Specter Gabriel Macht (Harvey Specter), Sarah Rafferty (Donna Paulsen), Rick Hoffman (Louise Litt), and Dule Hill (Alex Williams). Heigl’s debut episode in Suits Season 8 is set to air later this year.
