We have loved Mindy Kaling and B.K. Novak’s friendship ever since we first saw them as Kelly Kappor and Ryan Howard in The Office. They had an on-again-off-again relationship for a couple years, but now, they’re just best friends—or so they say—who support each other’s career, spend a lot of time together, pose for the best selfies, and walk hand in hand down the red carpet at the most exclusive event in the industry (a.k.a. last Sunday’s Vanity Fair’s Oscars after-party).
But this week, B.J. took his friendship with Mindy to a whole new level when he celebrated his bestie’s work in Disney’s new movie, A Wrinkle In Time.
On Friday night, the actor tweeted a picture at a bus stop featuring an ad of the film. The image—a close-up to Kaling’s face in her role as the magical Mrs. Who—is breathtaking. But for Novak, it was a much more special meaning.
“When I met @mindykaling she lived in a small apartment on Fairfax Ave,” he wrote. “This is what’s in front of that building today. Congrats Mindy and a future congrats to all those who see you in it and are inspired to do great things.”
Understandably, fans of the couple who are not a couple immediately responded to his message begging them to fall in love again and do us all the favor of finally getting married. But the sweetest reactions to the actor’s moving tweet came form Mindy herself, who tweeted back “Oh my god I’m like full crying. I will never be mad at you again.”
Ok—we’ve got to admit it. We too have fantasized with these two getting back together some day, and not in the bizarre, inexplicable way they are now—which, by the way, even Mindy has admitted it to be “weird as hell.”
“He is not my boyfriend, but he is not my best friend,” she said in an interview in 2015. “I guess you could describe our relationship as a ‘romantically charged camaraderie with loud arguments,’ but I don’t think Facebook would accept this as a new status.”
And neither do we, Mindy! Neither do we.
