Well, it’s about time!
Super drag queen RuPaul is finally receiving his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 16, just one day after the gran finale of Drag Race All Stars 3 and a week before the premiere of Drage Race season 10.
“Sweet Cheeses!” Ru celebrated on Twitter last year, when his name was originally announced before the official confirmation yesterday. “My heart is beating so fast right now […] dream come true!” he continued.
Ru joins other celebrities who will also receive their star this year, including Ryan Murphy, Jennifer Lawrence, Erick McCormack, and Shonda Rhimes, as well as Steve Irwin and Bernie Mac who will be honored posthumously.
“[We] looked carefully at each nominee and we feel that we have selected an eclectic group of talent that will appeal to the tastes of many fans around the world,” said Vin Di Bona, a member of the selection committee. “I know these honorees will remember the dedication of their stars with great memories and will be proud that they are part of Hollywood’s history now and forever.”
2017 was an amazing year for the queer icon: his hit show, RuPaul’s Drag Race, won an Emmy and an MTV Award, he released his sixth studio album titled American, made a cameo on Netflix’s Girl Boss, and he even got married to his longtime partner Georges, whom he’s dated since 1994.
And now, with the celebration of a decade of Drag Race and his upcoming star on the Walk of Fame, it seems like 2018 will be an even better year for RuPaul!
