Cameron Diaz retirement is more than just a rumor.
Earlier this month, Selma Blair made said her friend “was done” with acting. After the quote went viral, Blair backtracked, saying it was a joke, and that her words were taken out of context.
Well—as the saying goes “between joke and joke, truth loom,” because now it’s been Diaz herself who has confirmed that she is, indeed, retired.
Blair, Diaz, and Christina Applegate, who starred in the 2002 comedy “The Sweetest Things” met for an interview with Entertainment Weekly, where they discussed the reasons why there hadn’t been a reunion since the filming.
“I don’t know. You guys tell me” said Applegate, who, in fact, is Selma’s close friend since her children are friends.
“Maybe I should [meet with you]. You know, I mean, I’m down. I’m literally doing nothing,” Diaz stated.
“I’m literally doing nothing, too! I’m semi-retired, I haven’t worked for years. I’m a mom; that’s what we do. So I’m around, man,” Applegate said.
“That’s so awesome,” Diaz replied. “I’m totally down. I’m semi-retired, too, and I am actually retired, so I would love to see you ladies.”
After her surprise wedding in 2015 to Benji Madden, the actress remarkably withdrew from the entertainment world. After two decades of films, being paid up to $15 million per project, and four Golden Globe nominations, the actress said she had had enough of the industry.
But not all hope is lost! There is only one thing that could bring Diaz back to our screens: a sequel to “The Sweetest Thing.” Christina Applegate said she would “come out of retirement” for that project.
Diaz said, “Me too.”
