Kim’s PR interests have reached the White House.
Kim Kardashian, Jared Kushner, and Ivanka Trump are working together behind the scenes. According to TMZ the unlikely trio have been communicating frequently in recent weeks about a “possible presidential pardon or clemency” for a 62-year-old great-grandmother Alice Marie Johnson.
Johnson, a black woman from Mississippi, was convicted of “drug conspiracy and money laundering in 1997,” when she was in her early 40’s. Though they were her first criminal offenses, the single mother of five children was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star learned about Johnson’s case from an Mic video, and enlisted a team of L.A.-based lawyers including her own attorney Shawn Holley to contact the White House on Johnson’s behalf.
Kim brought attention to Johnson’s case when she shared a video of her story on social media, saying “This is so unfair.”
And although Kardashian has been working on the case for a few months now, it’s hard to ignore the curious timing at play with Johnson’s story suddenly popping back into the news, coincidentally (?) just few hours after Kanye West sparked outrage on social media saying that slavery “sounds like a choice.”
According to TMZ, Kardashian’s efforts to help Johnson—and do some major damage control as the Kanye West’s Controversy Tour 2018 continues—may be finally paying off. After months of drawing attention to the case, Johnson’s file is finally on President Trump’s desk “for review.”
