Jared Leto To Join The Spider-Man Universe As Morbius The Living Vampire

The Joker isn’t the only weird villain he can play.

Earlier this months, DC fans were left surprised by the announcement that Jared Leto would reprise his widely disliked take on the Clown Prince of Crime in a standalone movie. But in an even more shocking move, the Suicide Squad actor has now switched camps to join the Marvel Universe as Spider-Man’s antihero, Morbius the Living Vampire.

The actor took to Instagram to celebrate this new gig by sharing an image of the 1971’s character, simply captioning the picture with a black heart, which is essentially all the confirmation we need on Leto’s part to know that the project is truly happening.

Morbius is a living vampire who goes by the name of Dr. Michael Morbius. After attempting to cure himself of a rare blood disease, the scientist becomes afflicted with vampiric traits such as fangs, a thirst for blood and super strength.

Though Sony has not dated the film’s opening yet, production is likely to being this year, with director Daniel Espinosa, known for his work on Safe House and Like, set to helm the movie and screenwriters Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who created the Netflix’s Lost In Space remake, penning the script.

With the Tom Hardy-headlining Venom opening this October and Spider-Man: Far From Home launching next July, movie-goers look set for a web-tastic season that hopefully won’t involve Leto drinking actual blood or anything like that. But who knows!
