Kirsten Dunst and George Clooney are heading to YouTube. The two powerhouse names in Hollywood will co-produce and star in an upcoming dark comedy series by the video-sharing service.
The series, titled On Becoming A God In Central Florida, will be set in the early 90’s and will follow a minimum-wage-earning water park employee and recent widow who will eventually scheme her way to the top of Founders American Merchandise, a cultish pyramid scheme that drives her family to ruin.
“There is something incredibly compelling, heartbreaking and absurd about both she and the lost souls these multi-level marketing companies prey on, who look to find community, respect and a sense of self in all the wrong places,” said executive VP at TriStar Television Suzanne Patmore Gibbs before her dead.
The comedy, which will debut on on YouTube Premium with 10 episodes, is set to be released in 2019.
YouTube saw its first break out for its original series this year with Cobra Kai, the sequel comedy series to the 1984 Karate Kid. The first episode of Cobra Kai has logged more than 40 million views since it was made available at YouTube on May 2 and a second season has been ordered.
Seems like the battle in the booming digital entertainment market just got a bit more interesting!
