The golden rule is don’t do others what you don’t want done to you. Especially when that “other” happens to be the single most-followed person on Instagram.
Fashion designer Stefano Gabbana apparently lost his mind and decided to make a cruel comment about Instagram’s reigning Queen, Selena Gomez’s appearance on—yes, you guessed it—Instagram.
Under a photo of the pop star wearing red dresses posted by The Catwalk Italia on Monday, the Dolce & Gabbana designer, commented in his native Italian “è proprio brutta” — which roughly translates to “she’s so ugly.”
Of course, the millions of fans constantly keeping eyes on the 25-year-old singer’s profile quickly notice Gabbana’s comment and didn’t take long to clap back at the controversial fashion guru, vowing to boycott his brand and condemning him for bullying. “The only thing ugly I see here is your personality,” wrote one Selenator. “You must be blind,” someone else added.
Several of Gomez’s celebrity peers jumped into the star’s defense, including the 13 Reasons Why actor Tommy Dorfman, who said: “You’re tired and over. Your homophobic, misogynistic, body-shaming existence will not thrive in 2018.”
Julia Michaels, the musician who penned Selena’s hit Bad Liar, also rushed to Selena’s defense: “Just here to tell you that you are one of the most beautiful women I know, inside and out. I love you always.”
Even Miley Cyrus, who has been long rumored to have a feud with the former Disney Chanel star, weighed in as well. “Well what that d— head said if it’s true is f— false and total b—,” the Malibu singer commented under the photo.
Gabbana has a history of slamming female celebrities on social media. Just last week, he lit up The Catwalk Italia Instagram profile page by slamming Kate Moss’ Saint Laurent outfit by simply writing: “No,” to indicate his disapproval for her look. And in April, he left three thumbs-down emojis under an image of Victoria Beckham posted by Vogue Brasil.
