Does this mean Matthew is coming back from the dead?!
Hold on to your top hats and diamond tiaras! Three years after going off the air, Downton Abbey is coming back to you as a movie. The original cast of the series is set to return for the upcoming film, which will begin production later this summer as announced Friday via the official Downton Abbey social media accounts.
The Twitter announcement included a photo of a butler holding a silver platter with an invitation that reads: “We cordially invite you to return to Downton Abbey—Only in Cinemas.”
According to Deadline, Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville and more are set to reprise “their upstairs/downstairs roles” in the film adaptation set to be released sometime next year, with the story expected to pick up in 1926, where the series finale ended things.
Though very unlikely, it’s still unsure if either Dan Stevens or Jessica Brown-Findlay, whose characters were both killed off in season 3, will be part of the production. But give that not much details of the plot have been revealed yet, for all we know the movie could be all about zombies and Matthew Crawley and Lady Sybill coming back from the dead!
Hey—a girl can dream…
