Lin-Manuel Miranda To Make Directorial Debut On “Tick, Tick… Boom!”

As if becoming a living Broadway legend by creating two Tony award-winning musicals, scoring Oscar nominations for his songs work, and occasionally gracing our screens wasn’t enough, the memorable Lin-Manuel Miranda is stepping behind the cameras to make his directorial debut on film adaptation of Tick, Tick… Boom!

The show, from the man who created Rent, is an autobiographical musical set in the 1990’s that follows Jonathan Larson, an aspiring composer who juggles a relationship on the brink of becoming a greater commitment, a friend drifting from their bohemian lifestyle, and the approaching workshop of his latest musical.

Before the rampant success of Hamilton, Miranda starred in an off-Broadway production of Boom. “On stage, playing the role of Jon in 2014 was on of my most honored achievements,” Miranda told Deadline. “To now have the opportunity to make my film directorial debut, in collaboration with the Larson family and this incredible creative team, and to adapt a work I love so deeply, is a humbling privilege.”

The team around Lin-Manuel Miranda is just as impressive, with Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Julie Oh also serving as producers, and Tony-winning Dear Evan Hansen writer Steve Levenson penning the screenplay.

While it will be a long time before Tick, Tick… Boom! graces the big screen, you can catch Miranda in the upcoming Disney remake Mary Poppins Returns, due on December 21st.
