Keri will be introduced to a galaxy far, far away.
It’s just been revealed that the first new face to likely be cast in Star Wars: Episode IX is someone director/co-writer J.J. Abrams already has experience working with. Variety dropped the news that Keri Russell is early talks to join the new installment of the franchise.
Though details about her character remain a mystery, the publication does report that the role will “call for action-heavy fight scenes,” something which Russell has plenty of experience in thanks to The Americans, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Mission: Impossible.
Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac are all expected to return for Episode IX. And given that production begins later this month, Variety says that, aside from Keri’s, it’s likely that two more new roles will be cast by the end of July. s
This will be Keri Russell and J.J. Abrams’ third collaboration. They first worked together in the ABC series Felicity for four seasons, where the actress star as Felicity Porter, and then she boarded 2006’s Mission: Impossible III in the role of Lindsey Farris.
Assuming a deal is reached, knowing Lucasfilm, we’ll probably have to wait a long time to learn how Russell fits into Star Wars: Episode IX. Is her character with The Resistance? Is she part of The First Order? Is she not affiliated with either group, yet is somehow dragged into the main events? Whoever this individual is, it sounds like she’ll be able to hold her own in a brawl.
