Taylor Swift, James Corden, Jennifer Hudson And Ian McKellen To Star In Film Adaptation Of “Cats”

Cat lady Taylor Swift is turning into an actual cat.

The Internet loves cats. Cats the musical, on the other hand, well—that’s another matter. But perhaps one of the greatest singers of our lifetime, oh, and Taylor Swift could change that once and for all.

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, multiple Grammy winner Taylor Swift, and Tony winners James Corden and Sir Ian McKellen have all been cast in the upcoming movie adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s implausible Broadway hit Cats, which will begin filming in November.

Not only did this film adaptation somehow managed to cast actual talented famous people as cats, but it also has The King’s Speech and Les Miserables director Tom Hooper heading the production, and Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall penning the script.

The stage version of Cats, which is one of the longest running shows in Broadway, follows a tribe of felines called the Jellicles over the course of one night as they decided which of their group will ascend to the “Heaviside Layer” and come back to a new life.

Hudson has been confirmed to play Grizabella, a cat who’s been exiled by the Jellicle clan, just as we all wish to be. McKellan will likely play the wizened Old Deuteronomy, sources report. And Taylor Swift will probably be the flirtatious Bombalurina, which given her lengthy dating history, is actually quite fitting the more you think about it. James Corden hasn’t been connected with an oddly named cat yet.

To be honest, this sounds like Taylor’s dream come true more than it is ours. But hey—at least we’ll get to hear Hudson perform the show’s best-known, chart-topping, and probably only note-worthy tune Memory. So it’s not all that bad.
