Zayn Malik made no friends while in One Direction. And that statement officially kills off all dreams and hopes we had of seeing our favorite boyband back together.
In a recent interview with British Vogue, the 25-year-old singer admitted to not being in contact with his former bandmates as things between them broke even before Malik exited the group in 2015.
The reason? “Snide things” Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson allegedly said about him. And though Zayn didn’t specify the things they said, he did suggest it was enough for him to cut ties from them permanently.
“I ain’t spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you,” he said in the December issue of the publication. “That’s just the way it is. There’re things that happen and things that were said after I left. Snide things. Small things that I would never have expected.”
Zayn further stated that, spent five years as an essential member of One Direction but walked away from the band without a single friend. “I have always been a bit like that, though — always a bit of an island. I don’t like to confer with too many people.”
Speaking of 1D skyrocketing to stardom, Zayn said: “We went from theatres, to arenas, to stadiums — there was never any sort of bridge between. Just boom, boom, boom.” He added: “I guess that kind of progression to any mind – but especially when you’re 17, 18 – it kind of affects you a little bit. People take it different ways — especially when there are five different personalities. The relationship had broken apart.”
Given that Zayn Malik made no friends while in One Direction, guess it means the reunion we’ve been dreaming could still potentially happen, only it’d be a la Spice Girls: they will never reunite as a fivesome.
