Jennifer Lawrence is denying rumors that she slept with disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein after the claims emerged in court documents.
The Hollywood star is referred to on a sexual assault lawsuit filed by an anonymous actress, referred to only as Jane Doe, in Los Angeles.
The claim, which was filed on Friday, alleges that after she rejected Weinstein’s advances during a meeting at his office in 2013, the produced asked her, “Do you even want to be an actress?” before adding “I slept with Jennifer Lawrence and look where she is, she has just won an Oscar.” Jane Doe says she was then assaulted by Weinstein.
Lawrence, who won the Best Actress Oscar in 2012 for her role in the Silver Linings Playbook, has since denied the accusations. “My heart breaks for all the women who were victimized by Harvey Weinstein,” her statement started. “I have never had anything but a professional relationship with him. This is yet another example of the predatory tactics and lies that he engaged in to lure countless women.”
A representative for Weinstein told The Telegraph the claims in the lawsuit were not true. “Mr. Weinstein is embarrassed for Ms. Lawrence, with whom he has only had a professional and respectful relationship, who has sadly been dragged into this ugly attempt at defamations,” the unnamed representative added.
Since the first allegations broke in October 2017, dozens of women, including high-profile stars, have come forward to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual crimes ranging from harassment to rape. He has consistently denied any allegations of non-consensual activity.
