She’s a high-schooler, a Broadway fan, and pretty much your regular 17-year-old. Except for the fact that Rachel Zegler is also the star of Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story‘.
This raising star will make her film debut as Maria, opposite Baby Driver actor Ansel Elgort as Tony, in the upcoming remake of the musical film that explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds.
But don’t let her “unknown” factor fool you. Though this will be her first time on the big screen, Rachel managed to beat over 30,000 applicants for the role of Maria after submitting a video for an open casting call.
