He’s stepping into his Yeezys. Jaden Smith will play Kanye West in a new limited anthology series for Showtime. And though the announcement of is straight up bizarre, it also makes complete sense.
Smith will star as a young alternate reality version of West in the series’ first season, titled Omniverse. Though the crux of the show is not easily explained, it will involve the philosophical concepts of perception and ego (of course).
Kanye West himself will produce the series along with Jaden Smith, additionally backed by writer Lee Sung Jin, SB Projects, and Westbrook Studios. Jin, whose writing credits include Silicon Valley, Tuca & Bertie and Undone, is penning the pilots’ script.
“I’m honored and thrilled to be collaborating with everyone involved to present an alternate world through the eyes of a young man somewhere in the multiverse who happens to also be a Kanye West,” Jin said in a press statement. “Omniverse is not set in our world nor about our world’s Kanye West as we aim to add a new spin on alternate realities, consciousness, and push the limits of half-hour narrative.”
So Jaden Smith will play Kanye West in a series about philosophy and ego, and, honestly, we couldn’t think of a better fit!
