Zendaya’s Met Gala 2019 look—a light-up Cinderella inspired dress made by Tommy Hilfiger—became an instant favorite at this year’s pink carpet. However, not everyone was fond of it—including fellow Disney alum Lindsay Lohan.
Sticking to the event’s Camp theme—extravagant, over-the-top, exaggerated and theatrical—our Lord and Savior Zendaya channeled her inner princess by rocking a dress identical to Cinderella’s ball gown, which went from dull grey to its classic blue with the help of Coleman’s fairy godmother godbrutha.
However, unlike the rest of the world, Lohan didn’t seem to be so much into it. In fact, the 32-year-old even went on to shade Zendaya’s Met Gala 2019 look on Instagram, accusing her of copying Claire Dane’s iconic light up dress at the 2016 event.
“Claire Danes did that with @ZacPosen already,” Lindsay wrote on an Instagram comment. “@ClaireDanes, you wore this dress so beautifully. I don’t know why someone thinks that they can be more chic. Ever.”
The theme for the 2016 Gala was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” Posen previously stated that the dress he created for Claire Danes meant to highlight—quite literally— “the place where technology and fantasy meet.”
And though both dresses did light up, Claire Danes’ gown was never meant to do anything with Cinderella. Zendaya’s Met Gala 2019 look, on the other hand, was intentionally made to honor the character.
Honestly, no drama here! (And also, who knew that Lindsay Lohan was such a Claire Danes stan? Or perhaps this is just pure former Disney star rivalry.)
