The rapper was taken into custody in early July on suspicion of assault after getting into a fight on a Stockholm sidewalk following a performance at Smash hip hop festival. Now, multiple sources report that A$AP Rocky’s prison conditions are “inhumane.”
According to TMZ, the U.S. Consulate who visited the Fashion Killa hitmaker said: “Walking into the place was like walking into a toilet.” The poor living conditions include feces being thrown around, sleeping on a yoga mat with no blankets, and poor food. TMZ also reports that the water isn’t clean and that A$AP ate only an apple for the first five days in jail.
The rapper’s manager also took to Instagram on Tuesday, urging his fans to sign a petition seeking his released and further sharing details on A$AP Rocky’s prison conditions.
“The condition on the facility are horrific and include 24/7 solitary confinement, restriction of amenities for the most basic of human function, lack of access to life sustaining food as well as unsanitary conditions.”
Fellow musicians including Post Malone, Shawn Mendes, and Tyler The Creator have thrown their support using the hashtag #JusticeForRocky on social media, with some of them vowing not to return to Sweden “ever” again.
The news of A$AP Rocky’s prison conditions come days after the rapper shared videos of the incident on his Instagram. The clips show two man approaching Rocky’s crew. His bodyguard can be heard saying “go that way—you following us.” Another person says, “Nobody wants to fight you bro.”
“We don’t know these guys and we didn’t want trouble,” A$AP Rocky wrote as the caption on one of the videos. “They followed us for four blocks.”
